Go was invented in China about 4000 years ago. It is known in China as "WeiQi," as "Baduk" in Korea, and as "Go" in Japan, the game combines decepetive simplicity with an amazing depth of strategy. It requires patience and a cunning mind. Below there are links to play Go and learn about the game.

The game is played between two players. One player plays black and the other player plays white. Each player in turn, place their stones on a board containing intersecting lines (from 9x9 to 19x19). The winner is determined by the player who surrounds more intersecting points than his opponents. A player can also earn points by capturing his opponents stones.

The game is very unique because of the handicapping system allows players of various playing skills and ability to play against one another.

As customary in Asia, the skill level of players are divinded by ranks. It starts from 30kyu (sometimes 35 kyu) and it counts down to one kyu. After one kyu, you the ranks began with 1 Dan. There are seven levels of Dan ranks. After seven, they have what are called Professional Dan players. They run from 1 to 9.
